Administrator

Pat Howard

Pat Howard has been administrator at HMMA since 1987 when it was a satellite of the Selwyn School in Denton. In 1989, HMMA became its own school with a total enrollment of 73 students. Since that time, HMMA has added two new buildings which house two primary classrooms and elementary levels 6 - 12. The school now has an enrollment of 115 students.

Pat has two sons, both Montessori graduates and successful businessmen, one living in Plano, Texas, and the other in Brisbane, Australia. She has four grandchildren. Pat is married and lives in Keller, Texas.

Business Manager

Delaina Steed

Ms Delaina received her BBA from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. She also received accounting hours from University of Texas at Arlington. She has been a CPA since 1991. She lives in Justin and is very active in the City of Justin. She is a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission, President of the Justin Economic Development Corporation 4B. Delaina is also on the staff at Crossroads United Methodist Church as the pianist and Treasurer. She is also a member of the church’s praise band, Glass Houses. Delaina is married and has two children in middle school.

Delaina enjoys reading, singing, playing the piano, and spending time with her family. 

Delaina is Montessori certified for ages 6 to 9. She received her teaching diploma from North American Montessori Center.   She has taught the 6 to 9 class for 3 years.

Delaina is a certified Musikgarten instructor.  She is also a member of the ECMMA (Early Childhood Music and Movement Association).  She is a Certified ECMMA instructor.  Delaina teaches Musikgarten classes, pre piano and keyboard lessons.


Administrative Assistant

Terri Delisle

Ms Terri attended Indiana State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.  After college, she moved to Orlando, Florida, and began a career in Finance, working for Martin Marietta/Lockheed Martin for 16 years.

After the birth of her son, Ryan, Terri then became a full-time wife and mother for the next six years.  In 2004, Terri, her husband, Frank, and son, Ryan relocated to Colleyville, Texas. 

Terri enjoys reading, sports, and spending time with family.

Ms. Terri has been a volunteer and substitute for HMMA for three years.

Toddler Teachers

Mimi Catanzaro

 

Mimi lives in Roanoke, TX with her husband and son. They moved here from Pennsylvania. Mimi attended college in Maryland and has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Early Childhood Development. She also holds degrees in Dance Movement and a BS in Health Science. Mimi attended two years of nursing school but turned her career into full time mom for her son.

Mimi has received her Montessori Teacher Certificate and is a wonderful asset to the toddler program. Mimi is known as “Mrs. C” around school. She loves scrap booking, cooking, and sewing. Her favorite color is pink!

 


Becky Calderon

Co-Teacher
(Mrs. "C")

Ms Becky was born and raised in San Antonio, TX.  She has been married over 40 years and has a son, two daughters, and one grandchild.

She began her career as a pre-school teacher while living in San Antonio, working with pre-k children and as an assistant director.  In 1982, she and her family moved to the DFW Metroplex and settled in Bedford.  Ms Becky  has worked as a preschool teacher for over 20 years, attending workshops, seminars, and conferences that focused on the developmental abilities and needs of primary age children.   She was instrumental in developing curriculum to provide additional challenges to children including the development of a program to teach Spanish phrases and words to each class.

Ms Becky enjoys cooking, family gatherings, and dining out.

Primary Teachers

Kathy Craft

Mrs. Craft attended Wilberforce University in Ohio where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. After college, she moved to Washington, D.C., and began a career with the federal government. She relocated to Texas in 1986, leaving her career to become a full-time wife and mother. As she became more involved in her children's education, Kathy became interested in learning more of the Montessori philosophy and teaching techniques. In 1997, she received her Montessori Teacher Certificate and began working at Highland Meadow.

Kathy has been married for 21 years and has two boys: Jayce Micah and Ryan David, both graduates of HMMA.

 


Cathy LaFerney

 Co-Teacher
(Mrs. Craft)

Ms Cathy attended Southeast Missouri University where she studied Elementary Education.  She has worked with children for twenty seven years in a day care environment, a pre-school department and as a substitute for Keller I.S.D.  She also operated an in-home child care center.

Ms Cathy has been married for 29 years and has two grown sons, Daniel (24) and Andrew (20).  Her interests are decorating her home, shopping, traveling and reading.

 

 


Patty Griffin

Patty graduated from Georgetown University with a BS in Spanish and minor in French and Business. She worked for several years as a paralegal and then decided to change careers and become a Montessori Teacher. She completed her Montessori Training at Chestnut Hill College, Philadelphia PA. She has her certification for 3-6 year olds.

Patty has taught Montessori for 17 years. She has lived and taught Montessori in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina and Texas. Patty has 4 children all have attended Montessori Schools. She enjoys reading, gardening, travel, hiking and volunteering in community service projects. She also serves on the board of the Bob Jones Nature Center in Southlake.


Jenny Theiss

Ms. Jenny has lived in Colleyville, Texas for 20 years.  She attended TCC and studied Fine Arts and Photography.  Ms. Jennifer started working in Montessori environments since 1991 and  was also a Special Education Teacher Assistant at Jackson Elementary School in Plano, Texas.  She currently lives in Bedford, Texas with her five year old daughter, Gavin, who attends Highland Meadow Montessori Academy.  She enjoys arts and crafts, swimming, gardening, nature photography and family time.

 

 


Kanta Bhattasali

Ms Kanta came to the United States 20 years ago. For the past 12 years, she has lived in Colleyville. Prior to HMMA she taught at Barbara Gordon Montessori School for three years, before that she was a toddler teacher at “A World of Learning”, for two years.


Ms Kanta attended college in India where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Science (honors in Zoology), and a Master’s degree in Museology (Museum Science) from the University of Calcutta in 1979. She just completed her Montessori Certification through Southwestern Montessori Training Center in May 2005.

Ms Kanta has been married for 21 years and has one daughter, who attended Montessori School in California as well as “The BGMS” in Colleyville. Her hobbies are gardening, sewing, cooking, and watching sports on TV.

Ms Kanta also offers after school math and language tutoring classes for primary students and after school enrichment classes for all levels including lessons in arts, crafts, and sewing.


Leslie Darnell

 Co-Teacher

Ms. Leslie began working in a Pre-K class in 2001.  In early 2002, she decided to work on her education degree by attending and taking all available courses in Child Development at TCC.  She is currently working on her BA in EC-4 Education at LeTourneau University and has plans in her very near future of obtaining her AMS Montessori Certification.

She worked in the Montessori environment as a Toddler Teacher’s Assistant during the 2004-2005 school year where she learned to appreciate the quiet gentle method.  From summer 2005 – January 2006 she was hired by one of her teachers (who was also director of a preschool) to work with 3 year olds.  She joined the staff of HMMA in February of 2006.

Ms. Leslie is married and has 2 sons; a teen and elementary age.  Her husband is a Special Education teacher in the IISD.  Her hobbies include reading, driving her boys to all of their enrichment activities and continuous education in the area of child development.

Elementary Teachers

Marisa Panichpathom

(6 - 9 years)

Ms Marisa received her MBS in special education at Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma. She also holds a BA in English from Sri Nakari University in Bangkok, Thailand, and an AA in education from Chandrakasem Teacher College in Bangkok.

Her certifications include a MACAR Certificate in ADD/ADHD from the Shelton School (Dallas), Elementary Certificate (6-9 years) from AMS, Elementary Certificate (9-12 years) from SMTC, and an Early Childhood Certificate (2½-6 years) from CME. She has taught at HMMA as an elementary teacher since 1980. Marisa is also a Montessori Language Tutor and an Intern Supervisor and Visitor for SMTC. She taught the Severely and Profoundly Handicapped at Greenwood Hill School in Dallas from 1979-1980, and also taught Elementary, Secondary School English in her homeland of Thailand. She has attended several AMS seminars in the areas of Children at Risk, ADD, and ADHD.


Delaina Steed

DeWitt Acker

(9 - 12 years)

Mr. Acker has been teaching Montessori at the Upper Elementary/Middle School level since 1981. He holds a BS in Biology/Geology from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and an M.Ed. from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.

He is the father of four children - three daughters and a son. He received his Elementary Certification (6-12) in 1981 from SMTC and has been a trainer from SMTC for almost 20 years.

     Enrichment Teachers

Physical Education

John Eastham

Mr. John holds a BA in physical education from the University of North Texas. He also owns TumbleGym where he teaches beginning gymnastics and tumbling. He has been part of the HMMA staff since 1992.

He enjoys rock climbing, cycling, and working out. He competes annually at an Adventure Race (RRAC) out of Wichita Falls. The race tests his endurance of climbing, mountain biking, running, and canoeing. He is ordained as a Children's Pastor and is currently on staff at a church in Irving, where he lives with his wife and two sons.

 


Spanish

Carol Peeters

Carol is a native of Argentina. She studied at Buenos Aires University, Argentina and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Translation English-Spanish and French. She also holds a Certificate in Methodology to teach Foreign Languages. She has been a free-lance translator since 1980 and translates for many law offices throughout the U.S. She taught English as a second language in many prestigious bilingual schools in Argentina for 20 years. She taught EFL to adults/executives at several corporate companies.

After moving to the United States, Carol taught Spanish in high school in Carolina. Carol uses a Montessori Spanish curriculum for ages 3-12 years of age. She will complete her Montessori Certification through Southwestern Montessori Training Center in May. Carol teaches a Spanish Hands-on enrichment class after school and a conversational Spanish class for adults at night.

Carol has four children. Two of her children live here with her and are attending college. Carol’s hobbies include cooking, gardening, and traveling.
